APF At Home: Fireside Chat with Jillian Shipherd, PhD

Jillian Shipherd, PhD, is a 2023 recipient of the American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal Award for Impact in Psychology. She is joined by APF Trustee Dr. J. Gayle Beck for this Fireside chat.
Dr. Shipherd was awarded this honor in recognition of her extensive work to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ Veterans. Dr. Jillian Shipherd has pioneered national training programs for Veteran’s Affairs on all facets of transgender health care to support policy changes and improvements, positioning clinicians to evaluate and treat this previously ignored and stigmatized group of Veterans. Her research has received wide attention in the media and in senior management within the VA. Dr. Shipherd has taken her research findings and applied them to make ground-breaking change throughout the VA spanning both education and policy. Her trailblazing work has had a transformational impact on the lives of LGBTQIA+ Veterans and will continue to affect access to care for generations to come.
