Division 20 K. Warner Schaie Memorial Fund for Adult Development and Aging Grant
The Division 20 K. Warner Schaie Memorial Fund for Adult Development and Aging Grant provides funds to support new research on adult development and aging that will be conducted by members of APA Division 20 who are graduate students or early career psychologists.
The Division 20 K. Warner Schaie Memorial Fund for Adult Development and Aging Grant provides funds to support new research on adult development and aging that will be conducted by members of APA Division 20 who are graduate students or early career psychologists. The proposed research should be congruent with Dr. K. Warner Schaie’s research and methodological approaches to the study of aging and adult development.
This grant is sponsored by APA Division 20: Adult Development and Aging.
Eligibility
APF encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds with respect to age, race, color, religion, creed, nationality, ability, sexual orientation, gender, and geography.
Applicants must:
- Be a graduate student or early career researcher (no more than 10 years
postdoctoral) - Be a current member of APA Division 20
Application Instructions
Application Materials:
- Detailed project proposal (5-page maximum, single-spaced) that summarizes the research literature that supports it, clearly lays out a rationale for the proposed research questions and makes a case for the need for these questions to be addressed, states research hypotheses, and fully describes all procedures that will be undertaken to complete the research (e.g., sampling, measures, analyses). The proposal should conclude with a 1-2 sentence statement describing how the proposed research is congruent with Dr. K. Warner Schaie’s research and methodological approaches to the study of aging and adult development.

- IRB Approval:
- Applicants are not required to have IRB approval at the time of application. Applicants must provide a copy of the project’s IRB approval letter (or a waiver that indicates that their project does not require IRB approval) before funding can be disbursed.
- Letter of support from the supervising faculty member for the proposed research project is required for graduate student applicants.
Evaluation Criteria
Applicants will be evaluated on:
- quality, viability, and potential impact of the proposed project
- originality, innovation, and contribution to the field
- applicant’s demonstrated competence and capability to execute the proposed work
- criticality of funding for execution of work
- alignment and relevance to grant’s purpose/goals
- dissemination plan of key findings
- congruency between the proposed work and the research goals and approaches of Dr. K. Warner Schaie
